i am i fan of rent, but now that that is off of broadway i want to see another show.
imm going to nyc in january, and i want to see a show on broadwayy. this will be the first show i have seen on broadway, but im not sure which one to see.

so far i have looked at:
next to normal,
our town,
a lie of the mind,
chicago,
in the heights,
south pacific,
&hair,

all of those intrest me in some way, but i dont know which one i want to see :)
so if you guys would just post your opinions on the show and help me decideeeee thanks :)
&& i know someone is going to say wicked, but i already have plans to see wicked in march, so yeaaa/

If you like dance, see Chicago. Closest to Rent would be Next to Normal or In the Heights. I see you have some straight plays listed too. Our Town is very very old fashioned. Hair is also very dated. Some of my daughter’s friends are in this production (Hair), and I was in it over 40 years ago. It’s a fun show, but as I said very dated now. South Pacific is an old fashion musical from 60 years ago. It has been updated a bit but it is a bit long in the tooth.

If it was me, I would choose either Chicago (much better then the movie version because of the Bob Fosse choreography which wasn’t used because Renee Zellwenger wasn’t a dancer), or Next to Normal (same producer as Rent) haven’t seen this one but the Buzz is good on it. My third choice would be "In the Heights"

DO NOT WATCH OUR TOWN. I studied that play for english… it was terrible. And the others..

Next to Normal- Won for best score, but the original cast is gone. But i bet it’s good

Chicago- Great, if you like dancing, an interesting (and dirty) plot, a must see.

In the Heights- If you are looking for something that is classic, this is NOT for you. It’s very rap/hip hop. it is a crowd pleaser, but not a work of art

South Pacific- It was good, but now the cast is terrible and not the same as it was in 2008. But it did have Matthew Morrison from glee:)

Hair- and interesting musical (not much of a plot tho). Don’t go if you don’t want to see a naked
scene.

Out of those… I say Chicago. But there is A little Night Music on broadway now with Catherine Zeta-Jones and the great Angela Lansbury. And in late april, Promises Promises is coming with Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes! So if you want to wait for that one, I highly recommend it.
have fun watching your first broadway show!

i’m not sure about our town, a lie of the mind, or south pacific, but i do know a lot about the others. i recommend you definitely see one of those!

next to normal: like someone else said, it is similar to rent in that it deals with a sensitive subject. (rent being aids, next to normal being depression). but most of the original cast is still there. i would definitely recommend seeing this, because the music is amazing as well as the cast!

chicago: this show is a little older, but still a classic. there aren’t any like major stars performing in it at the moment, except maybe ashlee simpson? the story and dancing are always great. but perhaps i would see another show, because ashlee simpson isn’t necessarily a broadway star.. haha

in the heights: amazing show. i’m actually going to see the tour in january! the music is really cool, mostly hip hop and rap, and the story is awesome. again, it’s a little older so a lot of the original cast is gone. but it would still be a good choice if you enjoy that type of music.

hair: my personal favorite. absolutely amazing, amazing show. i saw this is ny over the summer. the original cast is incredible! and they’re leaving for london soon so i would catch them while they’re still here. the music has the same structure as the original, but with a new twist, since it is a revival. i love this show. and the nude scene was done very tastefully and lasts about two seconds, so that shouldn’t really be a detriment to your decision.

i say go see hair. or next to normal. or both. haha =]

You’re lucky! I would go see hair, I just saw it an it was probably the best performance I’ve ever seen. Not my favorite show, but the actors and the performance was just a once in a life time experience. I don’t really like the music from next to normal so I wouldn’t go to that. I went with school and some saw hair some saw in the heights. The people who went to in the height didn’t really like it. They said the story was an over used story and they would have been impressed if a high school student wrote it. Chicago is a classic, it would be good. I would go see hair. The actors come into the audience in parts and at the end you get to go up on stage with them. It’s when they’re singing let the sunshine. We were like right next to one of the male leads. It was amazing!

Should I return Jacob's Ladder or just string him along?

It would be a step in the right direction.
